West Wilkes Coach Gets Award

Commissioner Davis Whitfield of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), on behalf of the Association, presented the Charlie Adams Distinguished Service Award to Chris Skabo, athletic Director of West Wilkes High School at the Region 7 NCHSAA meeting in the Stone Center on September 9, 2012.  The Charlie Adams Distinguished Service Awards are given per region and go to a person with at least 10 years experience in education and athletics who is still active in the field and has regularly gone “above and beyond” the call of duty at both the local and the state level.  Dr. Marty Hemric, Superintendent of Wilkes County Schools attended the meeting as did many of Coach Skabo’s colleagues and friends across the county and region. Dr. Hemric states, “Coach Skabo is a dedicated educator, athletic director and coach with Wilkes County Schools. On behalf of the school system, we want to say how very proud of him we are and to thank him for his contributions as he represented Region 7 and Wilkes County as a member of the NCHSAA Board.”
