On October 10, 2012, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack declared a natural disaster in the State of North Carolina based on losses caused by excessive rain and flooding that occurred May 14, 2012 to May 16, 2012. As a result of this natural disaster, 2 North Carolina counties were declared eligible for Federal disaster assistance, including Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans (EM) for eligible family farmers. Those primary disaster counties are: Davidson and Yadkin. In addition to those 2 primary disaster counties, 10 additional North Carolina counties are named as contiguous counties where eligible family farmers may qualify for FSA EM loan assistance. Those counties are: Davie, Guilford, Montgomery, Rowan, Surry, Forsyth, Iredell, Randolph, Stanly, and Wilkes. Farmers in Wilkes County may apply for EM loans for physical and production losses. June 10, 2013 is the deadline for filing an application. The Wilkes County FSA Office is located at 207 W Main Street, Room 108, Wilkesboro, NC and has office hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Sunny Estes of the Wilkes FSA office said that any farmer who suffered a physical and/or production loss should contact her office for additional information at 838-3622.
