Shoplifting and Drug Charges

Wilkesboro Police have made a number of arrests this week that started out with shoplifting and ended with drug possession charges.  Wednesday, Police were called to Walmart regarding a shoplifter who had taken 45 dollars worth of stationary items and placed them in her 3-year-old son’s backpack.  The woman, Misty Minton, had also been banned from Walmart due to previous shoplifting offenses.  Police searched Minton and found pills for which she did not have a prescription.  DSS was called to come get her son.  The 3-year-old was later released to the custody of his father, who had been working out of town.  Minton was charged with 3 misdemeanor counts of drug possession, larceny, and trespassing.  Her bond was set at 4500 dollars.  Wilkesboro Police were also called to Walmart due to a woman leaving the store with a stolen wrist brace.  Cheri Darden had removed the brace from the packaging in the store and put it on her arm.  She then tried to leave.  Police were called and searched Darden.  Pills and drug paraphernalia were found in her pocketbook.  Darden was arrested and charged with 2 misdemeanor counts of drug possession and one misdemeanor count of larceny.  Her bond was set at 4000 dollars.
