Safes Were Not Safe from Thieves

They took one safe and pried open the other one.  Last week, Wilkes Sheriff’s Deputies were called to investigate a break-in at a home in North Wilkesboro.  The victim reported that they were away from home for only a few hours, but apparently it was long enough for someone to break-in and steal.  The homeowners were gone between the hours of 1:30 and 5pm.  While they were gone, someone pried open a bedroom window and entered the home.  A small safe containing prescription medication was stolen.  Nothing else inside the home was reported stolen.  The thief did find a second safe which was bolted to the floor.  Since the thief could not take that one, he or she pried it open.  None of the personal papers or documents inside the second safe were stolen.  There is a possible suspect in this break-in and charges are pending further investigation by the Wilkes Sheriff’s Department.
