Misdemeanor and Felony

As we have explained before, shoplifting an item is usually a misdemeanor but removing that anti-theft device makes it a felony.  Wilkesboro Police were called to Kohls this week regarding two teenage white females.  The two were see on in-store video entering the store with large handbags.  The two teens then took several items into the dressing room.  Both acted suspiciously, so when they left the store without stopping by the checkout line, store employees asked them to step back inside the store.  A search of the two teens’ handbags revealed several stolen items and a tool for removing the anti-theft devices.  Stolen merchandise from the store included clothes, a phone case, key chain and other items totaling nearly 400 dollars.  Both were charged with misdemeanor larceny and felony removal of anti-theft device.  Their court date is set for January of next year.
