Morning Robbery and Assault

Wilkesboro Police are looking for a man involved in a strong arm robbery and assault at the Run In on Oakwoods Road at 2:20am today.  Police were called to a robbery in progress.  When they arrived, they met with the store clerk who said a black male came into the store and starting asking about some merchandise.  When the clerk’s back was turned, the man jumped over the counter, grabbed 200 in cash, and ran out the door.  The clerk followed the man out the door.  The man turned and hit the clerk twice above his eye.  The man then left the scene on foot.  Another man in the parking lot confessed to bringing the suspect to the store but denied any knowledge of a robbery.  When the suspect ran out of the store with the money he tried to leave in the other man’s car but was unable to do so.  That’s when the assault on the clerk occurred and the suspect ran off toward the DOT on Oakwoods Road.  Police do have the name of the suspect and charges are pending.
