WEF Money for WCC Scholarships
Friday, November 2, 2012 at 6:30AM The Wilkes Education Foundation (WEF) is providing support for scholarships at Wilkes Community College. Peggy Martin Halsch, president of the WEF presented a check for $5,000 to Dr. Gordon Burns, president of Wilkes Community College (WCC). Wilkes Education Foundation Scholarships provide funds to assist WCC students, with priority consideration given to Wilkes County Public School graduates who have earned college credit in a cooperative program with the college and/or a platinum, gold or silver level Career Readiness Certificate (CRC). Over the past 11 years, WEF has provided a total of $55,000 in need-based scholarships to students furthering their educations at WCC. Recognizing the increasing need of Wilkes County School graduates to further their educations beyond high school, WEF recently approved an additional $5,000 per year for students transitioning to WCC, for a total of $10,000 per year beginning 2012. For information on contributing to WEF scholarships, contact Jody Hamby at the Wilkes County Schools office at 336-667-1121.
