Banned from Kohls to Kohls

After she was banned from Kohls in Hickory for shoplifting, she decided to go shoplifting at the Kohls in Wilkesboro.  The local store called Wilkesboro Police this week regarding a woman being detained for shoplifting.  Store staff saw the woman place put several articles of clothing in Kohl’s shopping bags.  She then tried to leave the store without paying.  Stolen property totaled over 450 dollars.  The woman, identified as Melanie Rice, said she was unemployed and was stealing the clothing to re-sell for cash.  Rice had removed 18 security devices from the clothing with a pair of cutters.  All of the stolen property was recovered and returned to the store.  The pair of cutters was seized for evidence.  Wilkesboro Police arrested Rice and charged her with 18 felony counts of removing a security device, larceny, trespassing, and an open warrant.  She was taken to the Wilkes County Jail with a 15,500 dollar bond.  Her court date is set for September.
