Driving Shopping Cart While Impaired

I guess DUI or DWI doesn’t apply when driving a shopping cart inside a store.  Wilkesboro Police were called to Walmart recently regarding an intoxicated person driving a motorized shopping cart.  According to store employees, the man was driving the cart through the store, crashing into shelves, and causing merchandise to fall in the floor.  Police stopped the man, Gary Laws of North Wilkesboro, in the store and questioned him.  Laws said that he was driving the cart because his legs hurt.  Law also admitted to drinking.  Then, store employees noticed unpaid for items in the man’s pocket.  The stolen items included egg rolls and dipping sauces.  Laws was cited for shoplifting.  There were no DWI charges.
