They Communicated in Stand-Off by Robot

On Monday July 9th, 2012, at approximately 11pm Officers from the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve an Involuntary Commitment Order at 1074 Round Hill Church Road.  The subject of this order, H. C. Kennedy Jr. W/M 72 years of age, armed with a .22 cal. Rifle, barricaded himself inside a garage at the residence. Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office tactical and bomb teams were dispatched and used the Sheriff’s Office ANDROS F6 robot to attempt to establish contact with Kennedy.  Kennedy initially fired two shots at the robot as it entered the building. Both verbal and visual communication was established through the ANDROS robot and after an approximately four hour stand-off Kennedy was taken into custody without further incident.  No injuries were reported to Kennedy or the officers and the robot was not damaged.
