Tractor Trailer Loaded with Chickens Overturns in Wilkes

4200…that’s the number of chickens that were on the truck at the time of the accident.  Just after 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, a Wayne’s Farm tractor-trailer overturned on the Longbottom Road.  Trooper Shouse of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said that the truck driver, Ronnie Wood of Dobson, ran off the road to the right, overturned, and lost his load of 4200 chickens.  Wood said he just misjudged the lane and ran off the road.  Trooper Shouse said speed was not a factor in the accident.  There was another disabled tractor-trailer in the opposite lane, but it was not involved with the wreck.  Wood was charged with failure to maintain lane control.   It took over 3 hours Monday afternoon to clean up after the tractor-trailer overturned.
