Wilkes Community College Board of Trustees

The Wilkes Community College Board of Trustees met last week at the WCC Alleghany Center.  The board approved appropriations from Wilkes, Ashe and Alleghany counties for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. These appropriations include $3,041,629 for operations and $150,000 capital outlay from Wilkes County; $324,306 for operations and $15,000 capital outlay from Ashe County; and $95,000 from Alleghany County.  The board discussed and approved the schedule of fines and fees for 2012-2013. These included two changes from the 2011-2012 fee schedule. The technology fee rate increases from $2.00 per credit hour to $4.00 per credit hour with the same maximum fee of $16.00 per semester/term. Additionally, a supply fee of $650.00 will be added for first-year nursing students enrolling in the e-text course section track. The fee will cover the cost of an Apple iPad that will be issued to each student. The student will be responsible for the cost of the electronic texts. This fee will be waived for students that already own an iPad.  The WCC Board also approved renewing the leases for the buildings that house the Workforce Investment Act program, the cosmetology program in Ashe, and the basic skills program.  Colleges will receive their state allocations on July 20 after approval of the State Board of Community Colleges.
