Are the counterfeit bills making a comback in Wilkes? There have been two reports in as many weeks. At the end of last year it was a common occurrence here in Wilkes for local stores and restaurants to report counterfeit currency to local police and the Sheriff’s Department. Last week, a store has had a fake 20 to be discovered in their bank deposit. Yadkin Valley Bank called the Wilkesboro Police after trying to process a deposit from the Run In on Oakwoods Road. The bank employee counting the cash in the deposit found one counterfeit 20-dollar-bill. And this week, the Wilkes Sheriff’s Department was called when a fake-100 was passed at the Clingman Pit Stop Subway. There is no word on if those passing the funny money were caught on in-store video. The counterfeit bills have been seized, but there is no word on suspects at this time |
