Common Law Robbery at Gas Station

The victim said a man grabbed his wallet, they fought, and the man got away with 20 dollars.  Wilkesboro Police were called to the Marathon Station on Hwy 421 this week regarding a common law robbery.  The victim told police that he pre-paid for gas with a 100 dollar bill.  After pumping his gas, he pulled behind the store to talk on his cell phone and smoke a cigarette.  He said a tall, black male came up and starting talking with him.  The man then grabbed his wallet.  The two struggle and fought on the ground for a few minutes before the man was able to grab 20 dollars from the wallet and run off.  Police searched the area but found no one matching the suspect’s description.  There was no surveillance cameras behind the store to capture the fight on video.  The victim has scratches on his knuckles and hands from where he had fought with the suspect.  Charges of common law robbery are pending further investigation by Wilkesboro Police.
