Mailboxes: Burnt and Stolen Mail
Monday, August 13, 2012 at 9:51AM A couple of Wilkes residents had problems with their mailboxes last week. First, the Sheriff’s Department was called regarding a burned mailbox. The victim living on Mulberry Creek Road reported that their neighbor came home from work, saw the mailbox on fire, and threw water on it. The mailbox was burned beyond repair. The victim has no idea who might have burned their mailbox or why, so there are no suspects. Then a Wilkesboro resident called to report the theft of mail from their box. The victim had been out of town for 3 days, but they had asked a family member to get the mail from their mailbox. When the victim returned home, they were told by the family member that there had been no mail over the 3 day period. However, the mail carrier was contacted and confirmed that mail had been delivered to the box all 3 days. There is a suspect in this theft and charges are pending further investigation.
