A Roaring River resident learned this lesson the hard way. According to a Wilkes Sheriff’s Department investigation, the victim left her pocketbook in her car while she went into the Post Office on Hwy 268 in Roaring River. The doors were left unlocked and the windows were down. When the woman returned to her car, she saw that the pocketbook was gone. The Sheriff’s Department was called to investigate. The victim drove up the road and saw her purse floating on the water in the river. Apparently, a thief grabbed any valuables out of the pocketbook and then tossed it in the Yadkin. There is a suspect in this theft and charges are pending.
