Pedestrian Hit in Wilkesboro

A North Wilkesboro woman was hit by a car while walking along the roadway early Sunday morning.  Wilkesboro Police were dispatched to assist a motorist on Hwy 421 Business.  Upon arrival, Police found the vehicle was unoccupied and partially in the roadway.  While trying to locate the driver, a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian was called in.  Police determined that Pamela Stamper of North Wilkesboro was the pedestrian hit by a car and she was the driver of the disabled vehicle.  According to the accident report, Mirna Tranquillno of North Wilkesboro was going west onto US 421 from Hwy 421 Business using the merge lane.  Ms. Stamper was walking west on the Hwy 421 merge lane.  Tranquillno told Police that she was looking back to see if traffic was coming so she could merge onto 421.  She did not see Stamper walking and the collision occurred.  Stamper was seriously injured and transported to Baptist Hospital by Wilkes EMS.  Tranquillno was charged with no operator’s license.
