Gun vs. Hammer

Wilkes County Sheriff’s Deputies were at the right place at the right time early Wednesday morning when a shot was fired.  About 2am yesterday, 3 people came to a Mulberry Mill Road house and kicked in the front door.  The homeowner was not at home but was at a neighbor’s house.  She heard a commotion outside and went to check it out.  The homeowner and two neighbors encountered the 3 people in the yard.  The three said they were there to collect money for a friend.  One of the neighbors had a hammer and one of the 3 had a gun.  There was a confrontation, a shot was fired, and the three left.  Deputies, who were in the neighborhood checking out possible drug activity, heard the shot, and were on their way to investigate when they received the 911 call.  Deputies quickly found and arrested the three who had fled the scene.  Steven Carter was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, and breaking and entering.  His bond was set at 15,000 dollars.  Heather Powell and Timothy Potts were arrested and charged with breaking and entering.  No one was injured in the incident.
