Address Unknown

Wilkes County Sheriff’s Officials are continuing to look for a known sex offender in Wilkes County who has failed to verify his address with the Sheriff’s Office, and currently his whereabouts are unknown. Warrants have been issued for his arrests and Deputies are continuing to look for him.  NC Law requires that convicted sex offenders keep a current address listed with the law enforcement.  If they move, the sex offender has 3 days to come by the Sheriff’s Office in person and fill out a change of address form, or they will be charged with a felony and arrested.  Every 6 months, a letter is sent out to verify address, and the sex offender again has 3 days to sign and bring the letter by the Sheriff’s Office or be arrested on felony charges.  At this time in Wilkes County, there are 135 registered sex offenders.  Of those, 117 have known addresses and are living in Wilkes.  17 are in the Department of Corrections or Wilkes County Jail awaiting trial, and one is missing.  His current address is unknown, he has two felony warrants out for him, and he is listed with NCIC.  There is a public information website for anyone wanting information on sex offenders living in their area.  The website is:  www.sexoffender.ncdoj.gov
