The ID Theft That Almost Was

It’s the Identity Theft that almost was.  According to a report filed this week at the Wilkes Sheriff’s Department, a North Wilkesboro resident was almost the victim of ID theft.  The victim told Sheriff’s investigators that someone had used their name and address to set up an Internet Account with www.billmelater.com .  A representative with the Internet website contacted the victim to confirm account information.  It was at that time that the victim explained that they had NOT set up any such account and then contacted the Sheriff’s Department.  There is no information at this time as to who set up the fraudulent account or what they intended to purchase.  The investigation is still underway.
