Stolen and Cashed

Both the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department and the Wilkesboro Police are investigating the theft of a check.  The victim called the Sheriff’s Office to report that mail had been taken from his mailbox including a check.  Later the victim learned that his check had been cashed at a gas station in Wilkesboro.  The act of cashing someone else’s check is a felony, and Wilkesboro Police were contacted to investigate the crime that happened within the city limits.  The check was written in the amount of 590 dollars.  There is a suspect and charges are pending further investigation.  Police have a receipt showing when the check was cashed at the store and are waiting to view security video to confirm the identity of the suspect.
