The Walker Center 2012-2013 School Events program kicked off with a breakfast last week at the John A. Walker Community Center on the campus of Wilkes Community College. With the help of dedicated volunteers, the Walker Center has provided over 436,000 students with first-class cultural experiences, including live theatre and music and the annual MerleFest School Day. Betty Thompson, a volunteer with the School Events program for 27 years says, “We now have a wonderful group of men and women who volunteer on a regular basis, made up mostly of retired school personnel, teachers and principals. This program is the envy of many communities, and it is so valuable to Wilkes County and the surrounding areas...” For more information about the School Events program, contact Angela Woodruff at 336-838-6260 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The sponsor of the 2012-2013 Walker Center Schools Events is Wilkes Regional Medical Center (WRMC). Wilkes Community College, a member of the North Carolina Community College System, is a public, two-year, open-door institution serving the people of Wilkes, Ashe and Alleghany counties and beyond.
