Grant Money for Wilkes and Surrounding Counties
Friday, September 14, 2012 at 9:38AM U.S. Senator Kay Hagan has applauded the award of a $90,000 grant that will help the Land-of-Sky Regional Council expand and enhance the local food and forest economy in Western North Carolina and support jobs. “Agribusiness has the potential to spur job growth for years to come as the industry continues to grow and thrive in Western North Carolina,” Hagan said.The funding is in addition to a recent federal investment in WNC AgriVentures, a program developed by Land-of-Sky Regional Council and Advantage West that supports agribusiness in Western North Carolina. Areas served by the WNC AgriVentures project will include the 23 western-most counties of North Carolina: Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey.
