One Car Wreck in Wilkesboro Today

One person was injured in a one-car accident in downtown Wilkesboro this afternoon near the Intersection of N Spruce and Main.  According to the Wilkesboro Police Department, 27-year-old William Leach of Haymeadow Road lost consciousness while driving on Main Street about 1:15 this afternoon.  His 2007 Ford Focus then went left of center and hit a power pole in front of Wilkesboro Cleaners.  The Duke Energy pole was completely broken off.  Reportedly, Mr. Leach has a medical condition that caused him to lose consciousness.  He was taken to WRMC for treatment of his injuries sustained in the wreck.  Leach was charged with reckless driving and driving without a license.  Duke Energy remained on the scene late into the afternoon to replace the broken power pole.
