Teen Scout Dies At Stone Mountain State Park

Sadly, there was a death at Wilkes County's Stone Mountain State Park over the weekend.  On Saturday, a 16-year-old boy scout from Kannapolis died when he fell from the summit at Stone Mountain.  The teen scout is identified as Christopher Overcash.  Reportedly, the young boy was hiking with other scouts when he fell.  A Stone Mtn State Park spokesman stated that Overcash had left the marked hiking trail and stepped out on the dome of the stone face when he fell to his death.  The fatal fall occurred around noon on Saturday.  The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
