Here’s a reminder to children, parents, and teachers about a writing competition. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 the Ladies Auxiliary have announced this year’s Patriots Pen Essay Competition. Students in 6 – 8th grades enrolled in public, private, parochial schools, and home schools are eligible and have the opportunity to compete and win thousands of dollars in US Savings Bonds and a trip to be honored by the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary. Students begin at the local post level, advance to the District, and those winners advance to the state competition. State winners compete for 75,000 dollars in Savings Bonds plus an all expense paid trip to Washington, DC. Each year more than 120,000 students participate in the Patriot’s Pen Essay Competition by writing a 300 to 400 word essay on a patriotic theme. This year’s theme is: What I Would Tell American’s Founding Fathers. Deadline is November 1, 2012. Interested students and teachers should contact the VFW Ladies Auxiliary at 984-4292.
