Charged to a Deceased Wilkes Resident

This time some computer equipment was ordered and charged to a Wilkes County resident who died in 1999.  His wife received the bill for the purchase.  According to a report filed with the Wilkes Sheriff's Department over the weekend, the victim says that someone purchased a laser jet printer, a computer keyboard, an HP Tower, and a monitor.  The computer and accessories were purchased in the name of the victim's deceased husband.  The items were shipped by UPS from a computer company in Ohio to a former address of the victim.  The victim received the bill for the purchase which she did authorize.  The person responsible for the ID theft is unknown at this time.  The Wilkes Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate.  For more information on protecting yourself from the ever increasing problem of ID Theft, you may visit the Federal Trade Commission website at www.ftc.gov.
