SkillsUSA Wilkes Winners
Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 10:02AM Students from each of the four Wilkes County high schools participated in the Region 7 SkillsUSA event held at Wilkes Community College on February 25, 2013. Students taking Career and Technical Education courses through their high school and/or taking Career & College Promise (CCP) courses through Wilkes Community College were eligible to compete at Monday’s event. A total of 58 Wilkes County high school students and two Wilkes Early College High School students competed in contests such as automotive, building construction, carpentry, diesel equipment, firefighting, masonry, photography, poster presentation and welding. The following Wilkes Community College CCP students placed in the top five at regional competition: Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology-- First Place Jonah Severt from North Wilkes High School, Teamworks Teams--Wilkes Central took second and third place in the Teamworks competition. Wilkes Central Second Place team members were: Dylan Adams, Andrew Foster, Joe Johnson and Tyler Wagoner and Third Place team members were: Devin Clark, Zachary Myers, Eder Morales and Justin Segraves, Welding-- Fourth Place Eddie Martin from North Wilkes High School, Welding Fabrication Teams--West Wilkes and North Wilkes dominated the welding fabrication competition with West placing first and North Wilkes finishing second and third. First place West High team members were: Daniel Patrick, Austin Ashley and Adam Ortiz. North Wilkes second place team members were Mason Joines, Dylan Kanupp and Joshua Miller. North Wilkes third place team members were Michael Billings, Luke Johnson and Jacob Owens. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the SkillsUSA Region 7 event. Students who competed at the regional event will go on to compete at the state level in April.
